I have a Sketchup 2018/RE31nxt 2018.0 user who says rendering is noticeable slower on his replacement workstation. On paper it should be on par or a little better (per forum hardware recommendations).
New – Xeon 4108 (64GB RAM), 8 cores @ 1.8 = 14.4
Old – Xeon E3-1240 (16GB RAM) 4 cores @ 3.5 = 14.0
Is the older version of IRender nXt holding the new workstation back? Not sure if version RE31nxt 2018.0 will use all cores available. What should I be looking for to troubleshoot?
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. The older version of IRender should not be holding the new PC back (there is a setting that you can use to restrict the number of cores used for rendering, but we doubt that would be set). It seems odd that the rendering is "noticeably slower" on the new PC. The new PC is an upgrade, but while the memory and cores increased, it's a 1.8 while the old PC was 3.5.
Ideally, it would help us if you could provide a benchmark. If you could send (send to firstname.lastname@example.org)) a screen capture of Task Manager with the Performance ->CPU tab running during a rendering we may be able to get a better idea (if you could do this on both the old and new machines, great).
Additionally, again if the user still has the software running on the old machine, could you render the same model on both each for 20 passes. On both machines after the rendering stops at 20 passes, save the images as .jpg's and send them to us (email@example.com). We can then compare the performance.
