Drilling into sub-components

This weekend I have been trying out your new Space Design Pro.. and I'm very excited.
However in your features list it says that Space Design Pro can "drill" into groups and components for nested components..  All I can get it to do, is report on the main component.. in my case it's a storefront window system.. it reports on the storefront, (as a component) but not the individual pieces ie: mullions, both horizontal and vertical, flashing... ect. (which are all nested components).  I have checked your documentation, but haven't seen anything written on this. Do I need to somehow tell the software to include the nested components? I've also noticed that spacedesign pro doesn't load on start up even though the box is checked to do so.
Any help is appreciated.

  • al..
the component has been sent to support@renderplus.com
  • If you can send us he model which causes the "Error during reload_and_redisplay_attributes()", send it to us at support@renderplus.com and we will take a look.

I will send you a reset trial code - remind me again next week.

And thanks for you help on this program. It is actually very complex, and we will run into some problems from time to time.
  • Toolbar Problems

When the tool bars disapear - go to the SketchUp View/Toolbars menu and see if SpaceDesign is there.

If it is not checked, check it.

If it is checked, then (a little more complicated)

    1. Uncheck It
    2. Switch from small to large icons (or from large to small)
    3. Swtich back
    4. check it again.

(Actually, we don't have many toolbar problems inSU 7.1, but are having plenty of them in SU 8)
  • It appears I broke it!..
Downloaded the new version JI07sd to see if the drilling of the components was included in that version. Installed it and played around with it half of the day today trying to get the reports I want.. Then the toolbar vanished during use. I went in and out of sketchup.. unloaded and reinstalled SpaceDesign, still no toolbar even after I go into the plug in dropdown and tell it to load. I can access space design through the drop downs in the plugin dropdowns.. the only one that seems to work is the "report" drop down. the attribute window opens but is completely empty of everything, even though the component is selected. the error I get from the attribute window is this...

    Error during reload_and_redisplay_attributes()

    (VER: JI07sd - MOFASTA - )

when I tried to send the error report I kept getting sketchups "BugSplats"

Also I'm using sketchup 7.1 pro... any suggesetions?.. also, I'm down to about 9 days left on the trial.. any chance of getting that extended since this hasn't worked so far?
    thanks
  • The Drill feature is not working in version JH26. We will post a new version Friday.
  • The setting: "Include components with no attributes" will probably weed out the ones you don't want to report on.

I will add a "Drill depth" 0 = top level components only, 1=up to one level deep, etc.

If you add an attribute called "lenx" and assign it the value "%l%' in the component, then it will automatically get a value equal to the length of the component.

You will have to assign attributes to all the sub-components by editing one of the top-level components, and then assign attributes to the components within it. We will consider a "component editor" which lets you see all top level and nested components and assign attributes. But for now you will have to set them one-at-a-time on your own.
  • Thanks for the weekend reply Al..
Once in a while I do have sub-components I don't want to include in a report, but these are always Hidden in the parent component.
Also, If space design could list the nested components, and then allow me to type in the attributes I want reported, ie: Lenx.. ect. for the nested components, that might also be a workable solution.
    thanks again for your responses..
  • I'll have to fix this. (I had decided not to include nested components, but a couple of people have asked about it, so i will add it)

Part of the problem is to decide which nested sub-components to include.

Do you have any nested sub-components you do not want to include?

And/Or can we include only components with SpaceDesign attributes?
