Can anyone help me with the settings to depict the following materials in IRender nXt?

1. brushed metal - I have been able to create shiny metal, like chrome but not a dull metal finish.

2. sheer curtains - everytime I try to make a material translucent in SketchUp, it has a glass-like appearance when rendered with IRender nXt.

3. translucent/frosted glass - this is similar to the problem above. When I try to make the glass translucent like frosted glass or milk glass, I get too much transparency.

I have looked at the advanced features in the material editor and have played around with the settings but the images still are too transparent. I feel I'm getting really close but the fine tuning eludes me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the frosted glass, you can apply a color normal white and then edit with sketchup materials: opacity and intensity.
Then, try the nxt material with edit options "glow".

Thanks Roberto. I'll try it and see if it works out!

For brushed metals, you might try some of the ideas from the nXt Material Library.

This first is a satin-plain finish. I see that the material is set with a low, 0.190, sharpness.

This next one, a light brushed finish, has a light brushed finish which is created with a texture image. Note, the image is applied as a bump map only so it effects the appearance and reflection but not the color. You can load either of there materials and just change the color to get the appearance of other metals.

For the heavy brushed finish, the bump map setting was set to 3.00, rather than 1.00

Also, a sandpaper bump effect was added as well:

Thanks Al,

I just downloaded the nXt Material Library yesterday. I'll look more into the textures and see what I find.

Any thoughts on how to handle those sheer curtains?

Next time I would recommend that you put your three questions in three separate threads - it makes it a lot easier to follow as results come in - also, we tend to look at the help desk for questions which haven't been answered and when some parts of multiple questions have been answered already, we may miss the parts which haven't been answered.

I put your Sheer Curtian query intio a new thread:

http://irendernxt.com/forum/topics/sheer-curtains

Thank you for your recommendation. Using Forums is new to me. I will post my questions to the Help desk site (actually I thought I was putting it on the help desk site). Thanks for the clarification. You have been very helpful.
