How to make a transparent texture

I would like to know if it’s possible to create a new texture using this picture, with the white lines but transparent the rest? This would be applied to a glass, so I would like to represent a glass with that etching pattern on it.

    I did try with bmp and tif, and it didn’t work, but png is perfect. Thanks a lot again.

    I assume you could save it as a transparent png file and apply it as a texture on a material. It's a very large file but it should work.
    Rich is of the office this week, but heI can try it next week and see what it does.
