How to render a nighttime scene

Thanx for the feedback! I was wondering, i really had trouble on rendering my exterior structure into a night scene.. But it appears so black after the result..

When i try to render it by nxtimage toning down the lighting channels by the sky and sun to ZERO, the sky is pitch black..It looked awful, i hope you could help me thanx! I tried the BACKGROUND option Which is the HDRI but when i apply it , it seems distorted .. Thanx!

Perhaps you could post your model as well as an image here on the forum and someone can take a look at it and offer some advice.
