Is Version 4.0 faster?

I am on 3.0 and I was wondering if 4.0 is faster and may have less crashing. Also I am finding that occasionally it decides to make up its own color schemes in during the rendering process. Any thoughts?

I really enjoy the program and use it all the time

    We continue to make speed improvements. But none of the recent ones will have a dramatic effect. Most of the typically advice is your best help - try to simplify your model, see if you can render at a lower resolution - allow sufficient time to create a good rendering. (And, of course, purchase one of the faster multi-core machines with a 64-bit processor and 4GB to 6GB RAM)

    If you are getting crashes, or strange colors, please post more information here so that we can address them.
