Restarting a rendering after a crash

Al,

Your last email mentioned an autosave feature. It sounded to me like it autosaves the image and not the rendering progress. Which I take to mean that you cannot continue the rendering process from the last autosave, and you get only an image from the autosave. Is this correct?

I also take your response to mean that the crashing I’ve experienced is normal. Is that correct also?

No, these crashes are not normal. Of course, my Windows machine reboots itself about once a month on Thursday mornings for Windows updates, and there are lots of things which can cause a crash. If you want to send us one of your models, we will render it here for about 24 hours and see if there is a problem somewhere which may be causing a crash.

Restarting a rendering

With the packet mode rendering engine , there is no way to save and restart the rendering while continuing additional passes.

There is a way to restart the rendering without having to extract the model from SketchUp again. The easiest way is to find IRenderBatch64.exe (usually installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\bin_Nxt) and execute it. It will ask “Do you want to open XXX” and will restart the last rendering task.

If you are using either the Path Tracer or Hybrid Engine 4 renderer, you can restart a new rendering and then just combine the images in photo shop to make a better image. For example, if the rendering crashed after 1,000 passes and you started it up again for 500 more passes, you would blend the two images in Photoshop – using 2/3^rd of the 1,000 pass image and 1/3^rd of the 500 pass image to make a better image. (We do not have an automatic way to do this yet)

In Path Tracer or Hybrid Engine 4 each pass and each rendered image is independent so they can be joined together with a Paint program.
