1.Use a section plane in a fully lit room using camera standard top view in SU- this way you will achieve a level of lighting realism but still see all of plan - works well for controlling sun and sky through windows etc.
2. Create a copy of top face of wall plans, move it just below desired section plane and give the material a small amount of self glow. This will make top of walls appear solid and help define shape of wall envelope.

I should add

3.The room model should be fully enclosed with `ceiling`to control exterior light sources
4. Set all interior light to a lighting channel to adjust lighting levels after render ( see video link: http://www.renderplus.com/videos/Lighting%20Channels%20Video.htm).

Hi
I sometimes use just artificial light and render 'int-no sun' find it gives me more control.
Stick spotlights all over the ceiling (click the box make the bulb invisible when rendering) in the spotlight dialogue. Navigate to an overhead view and simply 'hide' the ceiling geometry.
I also usually set the background ground and sky to black for added drama !
Attached is an example of this technique.
Not suitable for everything, just another way of going about it.

Mike
