Even if the glow does not directly light other objects, changing it with lighting channels is going to cause Photometrics to effect the overall image. (If the screen gets brighter, then everything else will get dimmer to compensate)
I think Roy has added a feature to lock the Photometrics. I just looked for it in the nXtImage Editor, but I couldn't see it there. We have not added a way to turn it on in IRender nXt yet.
This will give you something more to play with. Locking the Automatic Luminance can have some other unexpected effects, but it works well for self glow.
In this first image I have locked the Luminance, then lowered the lights and turned self glow off in order to get a somewhat dim scene.
Then, leaving Luminance locked I added self glow to the back panels. This gave me the desied effect of increasing the intensity of the panels, and their reflection in the mirror, without compensating by lowering the intensity of other objects.
Enjoy! - But use with care.
(And of course you have to wait for the release of the next version)
[Edit: Change Images]
Look forward to it - I presume the lock can be used in tone operator post render so I can always change easily if I muck up !
Thanks again for the quick response
