Hi,

We are trying to render a model and it is coming out different on two computers. These computers are identical. HP Z400 workstations, Windows 7, sketchup 8. Bought at the same time setup exactly the same. One of them renders correctly the other is quite different and it seems that a lot of the options in IRender don't have any affect on the outcome. We have uninstalled and reinstalled sketchup / irender and checked everything we can think of but still no luck. I have attached a rendering from each. Both rendered with identical settings. The brightness slider on the render screen is the same.

  • well we are good now. we copied the folders of the libraries from the good machine to the other one. this did not contain an accurender folder but still contained the hdri and skies. did one render and we actually had proper light and shadows working (which we didn't before) but it was still very bright. we changed the sky to be flat instead of spherical and now its working correctly and looks good. SO...thanks for the quick responses and for getting us to the right spots to check out.
  • The 'bug" is that the HDRi sky was being used for illumination on one machine, but that the renderer couldn't find the HDRi sky on the other machine. This caused the large difference in the appearance of the images.

Perhaps you liked the image better which did not have HDRi illumination?

(That is our default for "High Dynamic")

  • well, this just got confusing. the rtutt machine is the one that works...or at least the rendered image is the better one. On the rtutt machine, we clicked on the "Load from Library" button on the Create nXt Plant dialog and it brought up the folder to browse. No warning. on the bkennemer machine we did the same thing and did get the warning of libraries may not be loaded. So the bkennemer machine has the accurender libraries & no nxt libraries (even after reinstalling), the rtutt machine has the opposite, nxt libraries and no accurender libraries but it works fine.
  • It sure looks to me like the nXt libraries are not installed on the "rtutt" machine.

When I look in the file "nxt_render_params.txt" in the batch folder that you sent from that machine, I see:

    SupportFolder;C:\Program Files (x86)\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\Libraries

    Where I see:

    SupportFolder;C:\Program Files (x86)\Render Plus Systems\Accurender Libraries

on the other machine. The "IRender_nXt\Libraries" folder just contains a few of the HDRi skies.

So the rtutt machine won't be able to find the "bearmountain" HDRi file in the "Accurender Libraries" folder.

Could you try un-installing and reinstalling the nXt Libraries again, making sure that you have administrator priveleges when you install it?

I see you said that was done, but we set the location of these libraries in the registry only when we first  install them, so the un-install would be necessary.

There are a few things you could do first to see if the library is correctly installed, like look in the registry for the location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Render Plus Systems\ar_support_files

(with no 1,2, or 3 as a suffix)

to see if it is indeed set, or simply clicking on the "Load from Library" button on the Create nXt Plant dialog. It will warn you if we don't think the libraries are loaded, but just un-installing and reinstalling the libraries should fix the problem,

  • ok uploading now
  • Could you zip up the contents of these "batch" folders on the 2 machines (after rendering the same model), and send them to us, so we can compare everything?

    C:\Users\rtutt\AppData\Local\Temp\nXt_batch\

    on the other machine:

    C:\Users\BKENNE~1\AppData\Local\Temp\nXt_batch

Use the Uploads tab above on this page to send them.

  • The nxt libraries are installed, they were uninstalled and reinstalled at the same time as the rest. Attached are 2 images again. Each computer opened the same file, didn't adjust anything, and rendered again (the same person did it just to make sure it was the same)

  •

Besides the resolution and camera differences, the two images had a different number of faces:

(The camera positions were very slightly different)

232,230 for the first image, and 234,004 for the second image.

Are you sure you rendered precisely the same model for both images?

You were not using a Render Farm, were you?

Try doing the two renderings to exactly the same resolution, and with exactly the same model.

  • Is it possible the HDRi sky selected for the sky is not loaded on one of the computers?

    HdrFilename: accustudio_bearmtn.hdr

Perhaps the nXt libraries aren't installed, so that machine reverts to just using the sun?
