Hi, I have been using Irender Nxt for a while and i am quite happy with its ease of use. However the quality of the renderings are only OK. I am wondering if it is possible to achieve the same quality as Vray with IRender Nxt with some more practice, better textures etc.

Depth of Field and Depth Blur
Another thing in the V-Ray image you referred to was the use of depth blur:
V-Ray image:
IRender nXt has two different ways to set focus. The Focal-Distance/Depth-of-Field settings on the Render SetUp tab can be used to set focus before rendering. The Post-Processing Depth Blur feature from the FX icon after rendering can be used to set depth blur after rendering.
Here is an image rendered without depth blur:
Here is the same image with the focal length set to match the lamp and Depth of field set to 0.3
This third image took the first rendering, and applied the FX Depth Blur to it.
This is a simple process because you can see the blurriness as you move the slider bar.
Harsh Colors
One other thing about the V-ray image is it uses much more subtle colors. This is the choice of the modeller. I generally use harsh colors - because I am trying to see the effects of the things I am working on more easily and also because I am partially color blind so the brighter colors are easier to see,
Richcat - I started a new thread about importing Arroway textures so we can check it out better:

Thanks for the update.
We'll see if this is something we can fix to prevent it from happening again.
Great news :-)
I have been doing som testing. It seems that the first low resolution teak texture I used somhow was overriding the new texture. I tried do delete the floor and draw it again and then I imported the texture again. Now it works fine.

Hi Vegard,
Do you use the Arroway importer in IRender nXt, or do you just import the textures straight into sketchup.
When testing for your problem I came across an issue with the Arroway importer, which reduces the scale so that you can hardly see any detail, which is what I thought were all the horizontal lines on the floor. See below.
I persume from what your are saying about the other images from other render engines (I can't see your vray images) is that the texture appears correct in sketchup, its just when you render in IRender nXt the detail disappears.
Other things to check
That the IRender nXt is set to render normal in the nxt settings window, not Colour- No texture.
No reverse faces.
I have sent the model by email. It is 35 mb because of the high resolution texture, The scaling of the floor is right, as shown in the other pictures,

Hi Rich
I had quick look at the image above and tried using the importer with a low res Teak material from the Arroway website
It would appear looking at the image above that there is something wrong with the scale, note the large number of horizontal lines on the floor, this is similar to what I'm getting (tiling of imported material), but to get round it have always just used the left click -Texture -> Position to enlarge it. I also tend to change the import settings - diffuse strength etc, and dont use the spectural that much, only a tiny bit of bump and switch on glossy refections. Sometimes I also used the reset colour option in entity, in sketchup.
Quick text rig images below.
Can you send me the model that your rendering to get the test_gulv1.jpg above, so that I can duplicate it year. The model would have the settings your using saved in it.

Thanks,
I made a test with Vray as well, and as you can see the wood texture looks much better.
