Problems with Batch Rendering

Hello,

I have been using the batch plot facility to render in Sketchup but am finding it unusually slow, and at times unstable..

I am running my batchplot in the background while having things like autocad, word (and on a few occasions – photoshop) open..

One of two things happens.. that the ‘passes’ in the batch render either slow down dramatically, or just pause.

If I go back in and make render window active, it seems to get it going again.

At other times, it just crashes…. L

Is not the idea of batch plotting that I can continue to work on other things..?

Are their particular parameters or settings that I need to set to minimise the chances of it crashing?

I am getting large scale renders of 80 passes crashing an hour after starting, and finding that I have to do it all over again…

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Batch Plotting does let you do other things - but of course those other things will slow down the plot, and the plot will slow down the other things.

Normally this will not be a large problem. However, unless you have at least 2GB or RAM on your machine, you may run into memory swapping problems, which will slow down things drastically. Bring up the Performance tab of the Windows Task Manager to see how much memory the rendering process is using, and how muc memory you have available. To run AutoCAD, which can be a real hog, and a rendering at the same time you shold have 3GB to 4GB of RAM. Even then I wouldn't advise using both. Can you run your large batch renderings on another CPU? (You don't need a second license to run a batch rendering on a different machine.)

Try your large rendering at night to see if it completes properly with no other tasks running. )We are not aware of anything which would cause it to fail after 80 passes or so).

Also, be aware that we have an autosave feature which will save your image up until the number of passes you are able to render. On a large model, set autosave to 1 to save an image after every pass.
