Hello,

I'm attempting to render a model with about 65,000 faces, file size around 6.5 Mb. When the Writing Geometry window reaches about 60% or so, the rendering window appears. Then a message in the status bar at the bottom of the window says Rendering stopped: 91,000 or it freezes at Preparing to render with a status. The program just hangs.

Now, the problems seem to occur when I try to turn off all ambient lighting so that only the artificial light bulbs in the model are showing. Based on other posts in this forum, neither the file size or the number of faces seem to be the problem.

Any ideas? I'm running the trial version of IRender nXt v. 3.5 JL29nxt on Win 7, AMD dual core 32 bit 1.2 GHz system with 2 Gb of memory and a gaming video adapter.

  • I seem to have figured out the lighting problems. Thought you might like to see some of different scenarios with my model.

  • Rich,

I went back and rebuilt the six light bulbs in the original model. It seems this eliminated the 1200+ lights in the model. Instead of applying the glow characteristic to the component in Edit mode, which apparently assigns a light to each facet of the bulb model, I just selected the component and assigned the material glow property to the entire component (a light bulb). Now the model renders quite quickly without hanging.

My current problem is I can't seem to get surfaces to reflect any light. You only see direct rays from the bulbs. I would like to see some general illumination of the model by direct and reflected lights from the lamps as in the image DeepWalker1. That one was rendered just before the hanging problem started. The DeepWalker2 image is after fixing the too-many lights problem. However, now there is no light falling on the model from the headlamps. I even installed light shields to keep light from flooding the cockpit!

  • Will do. I woke up this morning after letting the renderer run all night. It didn't even finish the first pass.

ZIP up the model and send it to support@renderplus.com and we will take a look.
