Al,

Downloaded the most recent update, JL27, and when I went to run a small portion of an animation I received the following error:

"Cannot open file: 'C:\Users\CSTAPL~1\AppData\Local\Temp\nXt_batch\nxt_anim_file.txt'"

Any thoughts?

I just tried an animation on a couple of machines with the new version...works OK for me.

Is there any chance that that folder 'C:\Users\CSTAPL~1\AppData\Local\Temp' doesn't exist on the machine that you're on?

We were trying to fix that problem in the latest version and perhaps it didn't get fixed for animation.

I looked, and that folder does not exist on this computer.  Any ideas as to why it is looking for this folder, and what steps I can take to fix this?

Go to the Options/Render tab and click on "Batch Rendering Settings", and toggle the "Folder to Use" from "Standard" to "Model Name" and then back to "Standard".

This happens when a model was rendered on another machine, or by a different user, and we remember the last setting for the batch file location.

We thought we had fixed this in the latest version posted...that if the last batch folder path no longer existed, we would default your normal TEMP folder path.

Are you running the "JL27" version?

I am running JL27, but I will double-check for idiot-proofing purposes.  I will do as you suggested and run a quick animation to see if it works.

Thanks!

After trying several things: switch from Standard to Model Name, then trying it in Model Name, and even Custom to a folder I knew existed (aka the desktop), I am still getting the "Cannot open file: C:\*\*\*...\nxt_anim_file.txt"

It seems to me that somewhere in the program this file is corrupted, or not being made at all.  I reinstalled JL27 to see if it was a problem that happened during installation, but to no avail.  Same issued occurred.

All of the models are being rendered on the same machine, and same profile on that machine.

So, I am stuck as of now.

So is it just this one model that you can't run the animation?

Can you render the model at all?

I tried the animation on several different models, and received the same error.  I can do still images just fine, just not animations.

Is it still the same folder in the error message:

C:\Users\CSTAPL~1

If so, if you put that folder into the Windows Explorer Box as below:

and hit enter, does it find that folder?

The folder changes to where I am trying to save it.  The "CSTAPL~1" folder does not exist.  That's why I tried changing the folder to my desktop, which also did not work.  The two images below display the errors.

With Batch Setting as standard:

With Batch Setting as Custom and folder selected as Desktop

I just wanted you to verify that by using WIndows Explorer.

The real name of the folder might be "C:\Users\CSTAPLETON" or something, using your full username. Explorer would substitute the real name for the short 8 character name "CSTAPL~1" and throw an error if it really didn't exist.

When I type that into Windows Explorer it does find my user folder.
