Hi Rich

Is render farm working in the latest stable\beta versions ? - I have everything set up as per previous setup - renderfarmer and paths set up - The farm monitor indicates that both machines are active but it only seems to assign slice\job to host machine.I have tried on various sizes of models with no success. I have set path within public documents folder which both machines have access to (I have tried manually copying to and from both ) I did also try individual paths to see if this made any difference .Both current test machines are win 7 based. I have also authorised both host and remote render farmers and have both running as the active status should suggest.

Any ideas?

Thanks

First, disable the farm on the host machine. That will make it easier to see if the remote machine is working.

Then, make sure you have more than one slice set. If only one slice is set, then onlyu one machine can work on it.

Then make sure the remote machine is set to the proper path, and that it can find the path. Everything about the Render Farm is path based. So you can go to the remote machine, and open its Render Farm folder in Windows Explorer to see what is going on.

Try starting a Render Farm job from the remote machine, and see if the single Render Farm on the remote machine is able to find it and start it.

You mention "copying to and from both" machines. Make sure that both machines are pointing to the exatc same folder. (In which case copying from one machine to the other would not make any sense)

I copied from fom one machine to another to make sure both had access rights.Path is common but will set another elsewhere to double check.I have tried 1-6 slices.I will disable remote and test.

Thanks

Nope - i tried new shared folder on host machine - also isolated render farmer on host machine with no joy. Both machines are 64 bit - have you ever revised renderfarm64 since original tests ?

When I looked on remote machine I could see all files (see image below) The error dialog occured when I tried to run render monitor from remote machine - I do not understand what this means ?

Thanks again

In general, this means that we are missing a DLL for FarmMonitor64.exe. Hopefully Rich can look into this and add some insight.

Have you ever run depends.exe for us. There is a 64-bit version of depends.exe you could download and run, and open FarmMonitor64.exe to see if it gices us a hint about what is missing.

Also, can you run nXt74.exe, whereever the Farm in installed, and see if it gives similar errors?

The 64 bit redists for Visual Studio 2005 and 2010 are in the folder:

     C:\Program Files (x86)\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\redist

(depending on where IRender nXt is installed).

Perhaps just running them will fix things.

I can test in on our 64 bit test machine tomorrow.

Hi Rich

I ran both redists but farm monitor still comes up with the same error - Al where is the nxt74.exe ?

Boothy

That should have said nXt64.exe. Should be in:  C:\Program Files\nXt Render Farm

Also, run depends.exe for us. See: Using depends on a stand alone

Unfortunately the user of relevant machine is really busy at the moment but the nxt64.exe seemed to run the dialog \ starts icon in taskbar OK as per previous attempts.

Renderfarm still does not work after redist repair

Thanks

Do you mean it doesn't work anymore after an update?

Just an idea, did you try to recreate the batch after you made the update?

Maybe it's stupid and doesn't make sense here, but I just think about strange problem I had after an update.

I have just installed the latest version of IRender nXt (3.5 KC23nxt) and don't see the Render Farm option. Am I missing it or is it not apart of this version?

The only reason I ask is because on your release notes for version KA28 it said that Render Farm was apart of it. Just seeing were this Render Farm button/idea is.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick

You need to do 3 things

1.In the `more` tab of setup dialog - select -`support` - `debug` and tick ``allow render farm for testing`` option.

2.In `more` tab again select customise toolbar and tick render to render farm icon.

3.Restart SU and irender NXT.

You should now see render farm icon in SU toolbar

Hi Alain

No - this is the first time I have tried to farm with 2 x 64 bit win 7 machines instead of 2 x 32 bit or a mix of the 2 which I have got to work previously. It is also a while since I have tried farming and therefore was checking to see if Rich had made any subtle changes.

Thanks
