Hi,

Recently I've been starting to get some very weird behaviour in Sketchup regarding materials. They seem to have started around LB24 although I wasn't really paying attention.

In particular I have a material which is supposed to be transparent glass. When rendering, it renders correctly, but in Sketchup I get issues like thew attached image (brown shower door).

Note that this screen-shot was taken with LB27 but I have noticed similar behaviour in LB24, except there it is rendered in white.

Any idea what's going on? Is this an iRender issue or a sketchup issue?

I should mention that when I go to edit the "ShowerDoor" material it has settings as you would expect (see second attachment).

Hmmmm, interesting... when I go and inspect the material, the material rendering in SU seems to come good. Very weird...

Any ideas? As I said, actual rendered images are perfect, but it is a bit off-putting to see a material rendered incorrectly in SU

cheers!

Hi Rich,

I haven't forgotten about ya. I'm trying to find a consistently reproduceable case. Magically it all seems to have come good (LB29). I will keep an eye on it, and if I can reproduce again consistently, I'll send it over.

cheers

We posted a new version with an option on the materials dialog to remake the SketchUp texture after using the Advanced Editor, so that you can see the changes to the new texture in SketchUp.

Could you try that and see if it helps the problems with Advanced materials stated in this thread?

Nope, it has lots of problems.

The first thing I did was was to just render an image without doing anything in materials. With LC09 I now get no tile lines at all:

When I "remake" the pattern, it is not the correct pattern (should be just 450x300mm tile):

Hopefully you can see those extra lines it has thrown in. There shouldn't be any offsets, unless LC09 decided to add some.

Anyway, rendering is the same as the first image in that the tile lines are gone completely and it is not using the image pattern.

So I think I'll be heading back to LC02 for now. LC09 has radically missed the mark.

OK, let me clarify above. After a bit of thinking, I think we are actually dealing with yet another bug...

I lied above when I said "the first thing I did was..." It was actually an after thought. The first thing I REALLY did do was Remake the material. But then I decided I should render this first to see how it renders. So I did Edit | Undo a dozen times or so and did my rendering. And it was wrong, so I concluded that the material rendering as a whole has a problem. I was wrong...

This morning I reverted my virtual machine so I was back to LC02 again. I installed LC09 and this time I really did render first without touchiing the material. It rendered correctly.

So then I repeated what I had done previously... I edited the material, which completely buggers it up. I then close the SKP without saving. Upon re-opening it and rendering, it again rendered without tile lines.

In short, you have what I classify as one of the worst kind of bugs: data corruption. You are modifying things without me hitting save, yet those changes have been made persistent.

So that is the first (and new) bug. The other issue relates to Remaking the material which also doesn't appear to work.

So I'm going back to LC02 and will wait for a new release to retest.

Sorry about all that.

I put the LC02 version back on the download page.

I'll track this down and fix it.

I see that LC13 is now the release version. Just thought you might like to know, in case that differs from LC02

On a side note, I have a number of other small issues that bug me. Want a list? They range from install issues to UI issues where you can accidentally close the rendering window. Happy to write it up in a new discussion, or we take it offline into email.

Yes, I just posted the LC13 version.

I took out all the code that was trying to make a new image for the SketchUp texture after ediing a material using the advanced editor. That was what was causing the problems you reported yesterday. We were wetting the scale incorrectly when we rendered the material. I fix all this and post a new version with the Remake  button again once we get the bugs out.

Why don't you just email the list to us. A thread in the form gets messy quickly when there are more than one item to respond to.  We'll post individual threads for the items that need further discussion, or input from other users.

No problem. And what email address would that be then?
