I can fix the .PNG problem fairly easily.
In order to make material channels work with nXtImage functions, we are going to have write a new nXtImage editor, or move more of the nXtImage editor functions into IRenderBatch.
Are there particular functions you want to use (besides Lighting Channels which is already in IRenderBatch?) Or do I need to add all of them?

The most important feature for me would be to be able to reload the file back into the render window to be able to alter the colour channels at a later date.Also reloading file would allow me to continue multiple overnight renders and come back to material colour change the next day.
I have found material channels very useful - the only slight problem I have found is the lack of anti-alaising when changing colours - For hi-res images I have basically produced a single pass image at much higher res (6000x4500) and then changed colours to extreme to produce a mask for changing colour post production in photoshop.
I think the important issue is to be able to save and reload file - we would then have the choice of which editor to use.
