Is it possible to remove a lamp from a material once it is created.

If you set a material property illuminate or glow, right click on a face with the material and set it to 0

If you use "make lamp" - which make a lamp from the object rather than the material - right click on the object, select edit lamp and click "Remove all lamp properties"
