I have been trying to create lights, but finding they are way too bright.

Even adjusting intensity has no effect.

Creating lights with very low wattage still too bright.

Examples attached show standard table lamp with 15 watt bulb:

a) as rendered, b) same scene with reduced brightness.

Pretty much the same as 100 w bulb, and adjusting lamp intensity override also has no effect.

I would expect some correlation between lamp wattage and brightness, but have not been able to achieve that.

Have checked through previous discussions.

Any helpful suggestions please?

The rendering engine uses whatever lights available to illuminate the space, so if lights are the only light source, the room will be illuminated the same so matter what the wattage is, sort of like how your eyes adjust to a dark room.

Use the Brightness control to decrease the overall lighting in the room.

The Brightness setting gets saved with the model, so once you get it set correctly it will remember that setting.

I thought there was an FAQ on this. I didn't find one, but there is a discussion of how to make a night scene here:
