I have been searching for a reporting plugin for SketchUp for a very long time - tried everything! SpaceDesign has a potential to do the job, but how it diferentied the components - when I have a components named "comp", "comp#1" and etc. the report shows only "comp" and combined them as they are one component? Keep up the good work - application like SpcaDesign is so badly needed - especially for furniture and woodworking!! I have a lot of data in my components, but so far there was no way to use it for production and BOM!!
We "combined" comp and comp#1 because SketchUp tends to make these # versions so often.
To get the report to be different, you need to have an attribute which is different. For example, if you use the attribute $comp_name, you can override it by changing the "Name" in the SketchUp Entity Info window. Of you could change the description in the SketchUp edit compoonent window.
(Also, If you prefer to report comp and comp#1 differently, we can add an option to let you do that.)
Thanks for the quick response. But in SketchUP I start with a default component that has all the attributes I need and then copy it, make unique and change the attributes data as needed. Sometimes components have all the same attributes data, but differs in geometry - so, they are actually different - like "top" and "top#1". It is essential that the report counts unique components - as in a SketchUP's sense.
As I said, I can add an option for this. To test how this will work, just rename your # components with a dash instead of a # sign. This can apparently be done with Entity Info.
If you decide to continue with SpaceDesign, I will make a new version for you. The new option will report the actual component name - not just up to the # sign.
