Hi, I have been trying to find a way to create realistic grass with Irender Nxt. I wonder if it is possible to use bumps, as with the water effect.

I have seen a topic in the forum about the ground cover feature, but I am not able to make grass, just leafs. I would be greatful for some further explanation.

You might want to look at using an AccuRender material that uses displacement to make realistic grass.

You can download a material from AccuStudio to see how it works at this link:

Then you can use it as it is, or substitute your own grass image, and play with the displacement to see what you can come up with...or maybe some other folks can post the grass materials that they are using.

Thanks, It looks great from a distance but close up it is not very realistic. Se attatched picture. I saw a picture on the forum that has a great grass. (attatchement nr 2). However I was not able to follow the insructions properly. I think I need a ArGroundCover file for the grass, not a leaf.

I have found the instructions, but I dont quite understand. I am not able to make a groundcover witht gras, only with leafs.

Could you point me to the instructions?

Oh, stupid me. I did not understand that I just had to replace the png. Thanks a lot.

Here's a grass groundcover I made to play around with it.

The first trick is to select a grass leaf. I found it on my machine at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\bin_Nxt\Support\Plants\Leaves\Leaf004.png

Then open the attached .GroundCover file in the Plant Editor so you can play with the settings. I opened the Plant Editor outside of SketchUp, so I could keep it open while I rendered after making changes. To do that, run: 

C:\Program Files (x86)\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\bin_Nxt\nXtPlantEditor.exe

from Windows Explorer and load the attached file using File/Open.

Then load the attached grass_1.GroundCover as a GroundCover for a surface, using the Object Properties dialog.  Then you can just render and re-render to see what the different setting will do.

That's the good looking grass!

We need to distribute that with the software, and maybe use it as the default groundcover.

Here's a rendering that I got using one of Richcat's grass groundcovers, grass.ArGroundCover, and his leaf, grass1.png file, from that other forum page link he shared above. (I did change the Pattern to a 7 Leaf Whorl.) Looks like grass to me.
