Would appreciate some suggestions to work materials and diminish "titling" effect. How to get a flow across, grass, terrain, cement or asphalt or gravel. I do post process in PS and add tonal masks but would be better in IRender.

I like to add procedural textures to grasses and paving in addition to the tiled image.  A large, subtle rubble texture creates some interesting variations across a large field - and across small tiles.  A sandpaper texture can add great texture to grass without even relying on the image.  Also, using textures from places like CGTextures helps - wonderful tiled textures; and some big ones too.  I've almost abandoned SketchUp's standard textures for rendering because they're all so small.

Hi Austin

There are quite a few software apps out there that specialize in seamless material production

sample links:

The spiralgraphics wood producer is free

I usually produce\recreate smaller tiles in PS by duplicating and flipping copies of images until I have a larger seamless tile then duplicating copies of original with feather or other blends techniques to provide greater randomness(randomness - is that a proper word?).I do use another program thats not on the list but I cannot think what is is at the moment - A google search does give quite afew hits for photoshop texture plugins also.Like John I very rarely use standard SU textures but sometimes with the correct autobump \applied texture some of the muted low res materials do give a reasonable ammount of `randomness`

Hi Austin

I have playing with genetica studio a lot more and using its synthesis node it makes upscaling seamless tiling very easy (2 adjustments to base image only) I am most impressed with ease (once you know what you are doing!)

see video:http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/videos/texture_synthesis.htm

and my request thread:http://www.spiralforums.biz/index.php?showtopic=10819

I did note that beta also includes 10% of list cost.

The basic version includes the sythesis node as shown in video - well worth a look at

I

do appreciate the information. I have known of genetica, downloaded free trail but never did get that far into it. Time to go back, especially since I have read both reviews and received recommendations.

Regards

I have applied textures such as grass, stucco, images, etc from non SKP materials. Also use the material editor in IRender to create and place. Question: when you create a texture say in Genetica, do you apply texture through SKP or IRender.

Yes you need to create a new texture in SU as per normal and then with Irender running right hand mouse click on texture to select NXT material editor to change render attributes - i.e. reflectivity, transparency etc.
